FAQ
FAQ #01
What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
Counselling tends to be short term work focusing on a specific issue, while psychotherapy is usually longer term work, with a deeper and more wide ranging focus. However, they can both be described as involving a helping relationship.

How do I begin?
First, telephone me leaving your message and telephone number, or e-mail me at Therapywest7@aol.com. Once we have talked together and decided to meet, we can arrange a consultation. This first meeting is an opportunity for you to tell me what's troubling you and for us to explore how I might help you. At the end of this you'll have more of an idea about whether you want to commit to therapy and whether I'm the therapist for you.

How many sessions will I need?
If your concerns are about a particular issue and quite focused we can contract for short term counselling (6-12 sessions) to help you manage the immediate situation. If your worries are more generalised and include for example, issues from childhood experience or difficulties in making or keeping relationships, we might consider working in a more open ended longer term therapeutic relationship.

How long is a session?
The session lasts 50 minutes and we would meet at least once a week, normally on the same day at the same time.

How much does psychotherapy or counselling cost?
I currently charge between £55-£65 for the initial consultation and each ongoing session. I reserve some concessionary rate places for clients on low income.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) sessions are £65-£75
